Hangzhou · 500-Room Premium Resort Hotel
Commercial / HospitalityBackground & Scale
A premium resort hotel in Hangzhou's West Lake district with 500 guest rooms and a year-round occupancy rate above 85% decided to upgrade its lighting experience during its third renovation. Guest rooms relied on a single ceiling light with zero ambiance, and one complaint kept recurring in reviews: "The lights are too hard to turn off — I even switched on the wrong one at midnight."
Pain Points
- Identical lighting for reading, napping and bathing — no ambiance at all;
- Corridors and public areas lit 24/7, with annual electricity costs exceeding ¥1.2 million (~US$170K);
- Faulty lamps required manual room-by-room inspection, averaging 30+ minutes per response and hurting the guest experience.
Solution
After three rounds of on-site survey and solution reviews, a BLE Mesh whole-property smart lighting solution was deployed:
- Guest rooms: 1 smart gateway, 3 smart switch panels, 4 CCT-adjustable spotlights, 6 downlights, 1 curtain motor set and 2 occupancy sensors per room — batch provisioning for fast rollout;
- Public areas: smart controllers and ambient light sensors in the lobby, restaurants, corridors and meeting rooms, auto-dimming by brightness and schedule;
- Management: integrated with the hotel PMS — check-in automatically assigns lighting preferences, while the engineering team monitors everything in real time with second-level fault localization;
- Voice magic: every room ships with a USB voice controller. One phrase — "I'm going to sleep" — turns off the lights, warms the bedside glow, closes the curtains and sets the AC to sleep mode.
Results (First 3 Months of Operation)
Using a floor-by-floor phased rollout, all 500 rooms and public areas were completed in just 45 days without interrupting operations. "Voice-controlled guest rooms" became a marketing highlight, driving significant organic traffic for the hotel.
